The gorgeous, peaceful in-patient facility in Tyler is literally known throughout the country for its beauty and for the extraordinary care provided there. Hospice of East Texas is the only hospice in our region to have a facility of this kind, staffed with round-the-clock nurses and doctors.
Although the primary focus of The Hospice of East Texas is home hospice care, there are times when caring for a loved one at home is simply not possible. When symptoms cannot be managed at home, or when families are having difficulty coping, The Hospice of East Texas offers a wonderful alternative – HomePlace.
Housed in the Robert M. Rogers Hospice Center, HomePlace is a state-of-the-art in-patient facility designed with patient care and family needs in mind. Twenty-eight private rooms offer hospice patients and their families all the comforts of home while providing round-the-clock, expert medical care.
The individual needs and preferences of each patient are always top priorities at The Hospice of East Texas. At HomePlace, an expert team – medical director or attending physicians, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, certified nurses aides, a dedicated on-site pharmacist, social workers, chaplains, volunteers – is devoted to the care of patients twenty four hours a day and focused on family needs as well.
In 2000 HomePlace was a gift to our community from our community. The purchase of land and the construction of the Robert M. Rogers Hospice Center, which houses HomePlace as well as administrative offices, were done entirely with private contributions from those who shared the vision of a place where patients at the end of life and the families who loved them could be cared for and supported.
In the twenty years since HomePlace was completed, its comfortable rooms and welcoming spaces have provided a tranquil, home-like setting for thousands of patients and their families. Many feet have tread its halls, and families have gathered on sofas and chairs, sharing tears and laughter, meals and prayers, in patient rooms and in family gathering spaces. HomePlace has truly been a home to families sharing their last days together, a home open all day and all night, a home where pets and children are welcome, a home that can host a family dinner or a quiet vigil.
As in any home, time and constant loving use at HomePlace have created wear and tear. In celebration of the twentieth year of its construction, Hospice of East Texas is seeking donations to "refresh" HomePlace and its gracious and pleasant environment. The last "refresh" to the facility was done in 2009/2010. Funds will be used to repaint, install new carpet and flooring in patient rooms, hallways and gathering spaces and purchase new furniture (chairs, sofas, tables, wardrobes and sleeper sofas for the patient rooms, and dining tables and chairs, sofas and chairs for the family rooms).
HomePlace is located at 4111 University Blvd. in Tyler, Texas.
